It is well known that the future belongs to the organizations that can adapt their activities and management style to the new conditions imposed by the economic environment. The age of communication and intelligent technologies is the age of speed, when all the processes happen very fast with good and bad consequences. It’s important to be the first that access the valuable information, in order to be competitive, but too much information in very short time is difficult to manage. Here comes the decision support systems (DSS) that is omnipresent nowadays in the current activity of organizations, and has a considerable role in the process of transforming information into knowledge. The DSS are used in the organization activity of making complex analysis in order to: identify opportunities in IT field that might be the source of strategic resources for obtaining competitive advantage; be able to react fast and correct to the changes in the market; reduce the cost of communication through electronic change of data; reduce the costs implied in the supply chain; reduce the cost of management and financial activities. The paper presents the main characteristics of the decision process and the DSS. Further more, describes some of the complex analysis that may be done through out DSS. The case studies come to make the connection between theory and practice in order to answer to one of the main responsibilities of the organization management: increasing level of productivity of all resources available. Using IT resources can increase the efficiency of equipment, materials and capital exploitation.
