The introduction of the euro as the single currency of the euro area will only be completed when the Single Euro Payments Area (SEPA) has become a reality.

SEPA will allow the payments industry to become more efficient and competitive, thereby providing significant savings and benefits to the wider European economy and facilitating the attainment of its full potential. At the same time, SEPA will create opportunities and challenges not only for payments industry but also for consumers, enterprises and public administrations. How well corporations and credit institutions capitalize on the opportunities of SEPA depends on how they approach not only compliance, but also the SEPA environment’s potential to deliver competitive advantage.
The current study presents the concepts of SEPA and e-SEPA, the opportunities and challenges faced by credit institutions and enterprises during the SEPA migration process, as well as the key elements for a successful implementation of e-SEPA.
