This article represents an introduction in being familiar with the notion of performance, in general, and especially with the performance of a business. Together, we’ll step on the road of finding the meaning of performance. The departure is given by the source and the signification of the word “performance”, of the olden time. But, as time goes on, its meaning has been changing. It has become a polysemantic word, with different meanings within different fields. In economic specialized literature, performance is seen in three different ways, that will be explained further. To define performance isn’t the same thing as finding the solutions for all the problems that might appear as regarding this complex notion. By stepping on the road of finding the meaning of performance, I’ll try to find a proper definition for it.
